Rank Rating:

Rank Rating is the point-based score VALORANT uses in ranked play to measure progress within a tier and determine when a player moves up or down divisions.

After each Competitive match, Rank Rating is gained or lost based on the result and individual performance, especially in lower ranks. It matters because it is the system that turns match outcomes into visible rank progression, so a player can win enough points to promote, lose enough points to demote, or stay in place if the score does not change enough. For example, a player who finishes a close win may earn Rank Rating and fill their rank bar, while a heavy loss may remove enough rating to drop a division.
