Everything about the LoL professional player Rekkles

Everything about the LoL professional player Rekkles

The League of Legends esports scene is extremely dynamic and ever-changing. Many players who were popular around 5 years ago are close to unknown now. While the limited interest span of fans definitely has a part to play in this, the reason the top players in the scene are constantly changing is largely thanks to just how many professional players there are. Because of the high amount of competition, many players struggle to garner a dedicated fanbase to retain relevance.

However, every now and then there come some players who burst into the scene and practically demand relevance. Faker is one of the most well-known players in that regard, though we’re here to take a closer look at a different player associated with the multiple-time Worlds Championship winner T1, Rekkles.

Here is everything you need to know about the League of Legends player Martin Erik "Rekkles" Larsson, including how he got his start in the competitive scene and why he has so many fans.

Early Life

Carl Martin Erik “Rekkles” Larson was born in Sweden on September 20, 1996. Rekkle’s journey into competitive gaming began rather unexpectedly after he suffered an injury to his cruciate ligament, meaning he couldn't go on to play football. He pushed himself to explore esports, where he settled for League of Legends.

As fate would have it, this would mark the beginning of a fantastic career, going on to become one of Europe’s most iconic players. By the time he was a teenager, Rekkles was already ahead of the curve and had his eyes set on becoming a professional player.

Rekkles’ entry into gaming wasn't a casual one. His competitive spirit quickly found a new outlet, and he poured countless hours into mastering League of Legends. His dedication and strategic mind gave him an edge and helped him stand out among his teammates, especially in the AD Carry role.

Despite the challenges that come with being at a younger age, he was fully invested in leaving his mark in the competitive world of League. Though his family and friends saw it more as a hobby, Rekkles made it clear with his drive and passion that he was going to turn his love for the game into a career.

Esports Journey and Fnatic

Rekkles started his competitive journey in 2012 with smaller teams like Playing Ducks and PAH. He made waves substituting for Team BLACK and SK Gaming by playing at a high level and showing his skills.

Fnatic [1] quickly took notice later that year and signed him on as their starting AD Carry, but due to certain age restrictions, he was not able to participate in the UE LCS. Fnatic went on to create a secondary roster called Fnatic.Beta and nurtured his growth. Eventually, He polished his skills with Copenhagen Wolves before rejoining Fnatic in 2014 when he was finally eligible for the LCS.

Rekkles’ return to Fnatic marked the start of a defining era for both him and the team. Over the years, his synergy with Fnatic took the team to several consistent performances and high standings in global events as well as the European scene.

He led Fnatic to an iconic 18-0 record in the 2015 LCS Summer Split, and the team later also managed a great run in the 2018 World Championship by reaching the finals. All these performances made Rekkles a huge icon within Fnatic and the League community.

Rekkles made a surprising move to G2 Esports in 2020, but after a season there and a short time with Karmine Corp in the UFL, he found his way back to Fnatic and took up the mantle of their AD Carry once again. His journey with Fnatic shows a deep bond and loyalty that has been present throughout his career.

Competitive Performances

Rekkles has built an incredible career and has stacked up several achievements through his performances [2] . He clinched back-to-back Rift Rivals championships in 2018 and 2019. In the LEC, he’s a four-time champion, winning Spring 2014, Summer 2015, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018.

He’s been recognized as the LEC season MVP four times, on top of wins in Summer 2014, Summer 2017, Spring 2018, and Spring 2021. On top of that, he’s secured the LEC Finals MVP three times across Summer 2015, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018, also taking home the Playoffs MVP in Spring 2014.

His skills also earned him six spots on the LEC First All-Pro Team along with other All-Pro mentions in following seasons. Rekkles has been just as dominant even outside of the LEC. he’s a two-time DreamHack champion, winning Winter 2012 and Summer 2013, also snagging the Thor Open title in 2012. He also took home the Gfinity championship in London in 2013 and established himself early on. He stayed sharp by winning the EMEA Masters in Sprig 2022.

Playstyle and Signature Champions

Rekkles has his impact as an AD Carry and more recently as a support player. He’s known for his sharp mechanics and strategic mind which help him secure clutch plays. His favorite champions include Vayne and Ezrael, but he’s also performed really well with picks like Jhin, Tristana, and Sivir.

Rekkles used to have a very passive playstyle that was a bit unorthodox for the time, but since then his skills have evolved and he’s now seen with a more aggressive approach. One of his signature moves is his ability to execute those perfect last hits and secure kills with very small damage taken.

He has a good ability to read the game which makes him such a formidable force. He’s developed a reputation for being very adaptable, whether he’s playing as AD Carry or Support. This adaptability led to his bold switch to Korea this year, where he joined T1 Esports Academy as their starting support in the LCK Challenger League, further solidifying him as an adaptable player.

Though he was registered as a substitute for T1 at the 2024 World Championship, his presence still shows how far his influence and impact has taken him.
